In my opinion Star Trek has had some superb actors over the years which adds to the drama. I’ve seen every episode of Star Trek but DS9 is my favourite the acting, story writing, atmosphere, sets were just phenomenal. Which series of Star Trek is your favourite? I’ve bought so many books that continue the story of all the series that I’ve not got round to reading yet, just purely so I know there’ll always be more to see from the characters who will have more adventures. I don’t care if I’ve seen the episode 1000 times. I can put a Star Trek episode on and just disappear into my own world. It gave me, and always has done – escapism. I got to know these characters through and through, I could relate to them because I was of course serving on warships at the time and the way of life (uniform, duty, being away from loved ones, the rank system) was what I was exactly going through. It was amazing to see these characters grow, relationships being created/broken as well as the story writing just getting better and better with every season. When I got home there would be a pile waiting for me.ĭS9 was the first series that I watched from the first episode all the way to the final episode in order. The cast of Star Trek Voyager (Picture: Paramount)Īfter a couple of years when Royal Navy ships started giving us access to Amazon, and I was on a deployment away from home for months on end, I would buy the remaining Star Trek boxsets of all the other series. On BBC 2 at 6/6:30pm every Wednesday, Star Trek: The Next Generation was always on, I remember sitting there with our Jamaican Ginger Cake & custard after dinner at the part just before the episode starts where the Enterprise-D flies in from the bottom of the screen before going into Warp and loving every second, imagining the Enterprise flying below me like I was in space floating, it gave me a buzz and that was before the episode even began. I think it’s because it’s such a hard-hitting scene its the reason it’s stuck with me, so it’s been a good 25 years. My first memory of Star Trek was from when I was about six or seven, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was playing on TV at home and it was the scene where Chekov has the alien slug put into him via his ear by Khan. Why do you love Star Trek? How long have you been a fan? So .uk decided to speak to one of the ‘fans’ who had been vocal on social media about the new series’ push for diversity, and find out exactly what their concerns were regarding the new series – and what they had to say to those who claim they are forgetting Roddenberry’s entire message of diversity.
